Trump disputes account of his Supreme Court nominee's comments

Trump's SCOTUS Nominee Is No Rubber Stamp

Trump began his latest attack last Friday with tweets disparaging federal Judge James L. Robart, who temporarily blocked the president's ban on immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries.

Donnelly said in a statement, "We had a productive and wide-ranging discussion on preventing the outsourcing of American jobs, addressing the opioid abuse epidemic and we also talked about Supreme Court nominee, Judge Gorsuch". The stakes for West Virginians are too high for us to offer Judge Gorsuch anything less than our full support.

Mr Gorsuch is making the rounds in the Senate, drawing praise from Republicans but scepticism from many Democrats, including Senator Blumenthal.

Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) confirmed that was also his impression from his own meeting with Gorsuch.

Or my proposal: Mr. Trump, facing a divided country with high emotions, seeks to mend fences and salve past injuries by offering a deal to both parties.

I am listening to Vice President Pence speak to the Federalist Society concerning the nomination of Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

For these reasons, Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court ought to be resisted. "There were numerous White House staffers in the room, and he's made the same comment, as you just heard, to a number of my colleagues in their private conversation". At Daily Kos, Joan McCarter argues that "Neil Gorsuch's being "disheartened and demoralized" by Trump's rage-tweets about the judiciary has been scripted by Republicans" and that "a public declaration that the president shouldn't be tweeting about judges is not enough to make the nomination palatable".

In criticizing the man who appointed him, Gorsuch took an unprecedented step.

The senator later said he had used "misplaced words" about his Vietnam service but never meant to deceive voters. And this is a guy who kind of welled up with some energy and he said any attack on any-I think his term to me was "brothers or sisters of the robe"-is an attack on all judges".

Washington County Coroner Brian Declue said Ancona's body was located along the side of an access road near the river. There has been no suspect named by police in the case of Frank's death and no reported arrests.

The president has repeatedly said people are "pouring in" since the ban was put on hold and suggested that blocking the order would be unsafe for USA citizens.

Robart had issued a nationwide stay on parts of Trump's executive order temporarily banning travel into the United States from seven majority-Muslim nations while the United States reviews its vetting procedures. "We live in a time in which strong language seems to be the order of the day".

"The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!" Four of those vacancies are on the 9th Circuit, the court that ruled on Thursday to uphold the restraining order blocking Trump's executive order on immigration.

Republicans, who hold 52 seats, need the support of at least eight Democrats to advance Gorsuch's nomination to a final confirmation vote under current Senate rules.

The notion that Mr. Schumer and other Democrats are interested in preserving the judicial independence established in our Constitution is risible.

Said DNC spokesman Zac Petkanas: "This is clearly a meaningless White House orchestrated attempt to help Judge Gorsuch pretend he won't be a rubber stamp for the Trump Administration".

"Judge Gorsuch has made it very clear in all of his discussions with senators, including Sen". Richard Blumenthal, summoning an issue from the 2010 Senate campaign concerning his statements about serving in Vietnam.

Spicer said on Thursday that Trump did not regret his comments.

But Trump was right about Blumenthal, who, like Trump, received five deferments to avoid serving in Vietnam.
