Report More than 1,200 Michigan bridges falling apart

That's good for second behind Iowa, which again led the annual report with 4,968, also an improvement for the state from previous year.

The report found Iowa has the most structurally deficient bridges, followed by Pennsylvania and Oklahoma.

The numbers show that 10 percent of all the bridges in the state are now structurally deficient. The part of I-95 that covers Olde Richmond and Fishtown was the most traveled in the state, with 208,978 daily crossings. State officials have identified needed repairs on 1,614 bridges, which the state estimates will cost $888 million. Some bridges are labeled "functionally obsolete" because they were built before new standards were adopted. Other heavily trafficked I-95 bridges in southwestern CT in the report include spans at the Saugatuck River in Westport and the Byram River in Greenwich. "Federal investment in Louisiana has supported $1.9 billion for capital improvements on 906 bridges between 2005 and 2014", the report says.

The highway trust fund that funds the construction and maintenance of America's highway system has been unable to meet the demands of said system to cope with the rising efficiency of cars. "Over the last 10 years, 1,173 new bridges have been constructed in the state; 62 have undergone major reconstruction".

The Colorado Department of Transportation has lofty goals for not just bridge fix, but roadway updates on major highways, so it's not yet clear in what order the bridge fix will be tackled. Seven of the top ten most traveled bridges in that list are in Marion County.
